sorry, if you don’t get the title reference.. if you didn’t, it comes from an old Steve Martin film called “The Jerk”. (see the youtube clip).. So my brandy new Nikon D7000 showed up at my door yesterday.. and I’m so jazzed! I’ll give you my very first impressions after the jump.
I have been using the Nikon D80 for a long time now.. and I gotta say that the new D7000 is quite a bit difference. My very first impressions were “Boy this camera is quite a bit heaver and bulkier then my D80 ” its a totally different feel then I’m used to… not that it’s bad, just different.
I did notice one other thing that I’m going to have to get used to… on my D80 I set my auto-focus control to the AE-L/AF-L button on the back of the camera and I did the same with the D7000. On the D7000 I feel like I have to reach a little further, feels almost a little unnatural to me. I’m sure it’ll be something that I get used to over time, but I did want to point.
Now, I know what this camera is capable of as I have heard a lot of reports over the months of how good this thing is, but flipping through the manual I realized I am really in uncharted waters with all the features on this bad boy. I need to get it squared away soon though as I got approved to cover the Amy Grant/Michael W. Smith 2Friend tour coming into town next week. I will have my D80 with me as a second body, but I do want to use this guy as my primary.
So stay tuned… as I learn more and shoot with this camera I will certainly give you the updates.
