Hillsong UNITED Aftermath Tour
- Date: August 30, 2011

Hillsong UNITED appeared in the Steel City (Pittsburgh PA) at the Consol Energy Center the new home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, if you follow hockey; if you don’t then the place where they have been filming the latest Batman movie
. It was an evening of praise and worship and even more praise. For this show I got an amazing treat… an All Access pass to shoot anywhere, even limited stage access.

This was the first time in all the times I’ve been shooting that I have had access like this. I was kinda like a kid in the candy store. I got to admit though at times I just didn’t know where I wanted to be to shoot. It was really one of the most challenging shoots I’ve done. I also had a request from the band that I don’t spend all my time at stage front. They explained their shows are about worship and they didn’t want to be the center of attention. Meaning don’t focus on us individually the whole evening, try to show the worship experience. So thats what I tried to do. It was kinda cool as this series of images really seem to give a much different perspective on a show that I would’ve normally had. I’d love to do this type of thing with other bands, but we’ll see as much of the permitted access really depends on the tour manager and the band.
I primary used my D7000 for this show shooting my Nikon 70-200 2.8, Tamron 24-50 2.8 and even my 50 1.8. Lighting was pretty dim so alot of these images are around ISO 3200… Gotta say the more I shoot this body the more I’m loving it.

Hillsong always has so many people on stage… its hard to know who to focus on! Great pics!

Thanks David.
Glad you liked my images.
Yeah this was one of the more challenging shows. One of the things that is important to Hillsong is that if you cover them you show the whole venue and focus less on the individual players. The tour manager told me that for Hillsong it’s all about the whole worship experience and that is what they would like to see. I had to try to balance that with what I needed to provide NewReleaseTuesday.com. A Challenge indeed.

Awesome pictures and dude your getting to hang with Batman?! That’s awesome.
David Holzemer
Thanks Tim! This show was certainly a challenge, but fun.
As for Batman… they were shooting a couple blocks down from where I work… Security was really tight, but it was cool seeing all the production setup. I did get to see the Batmobile close up and a coupe action scenes with the Batman in them.. so it was fun.
