Anderson Grove @ Ignition 2011

These next couple post will be slightly different then usual. This is a local worship team called Anderson Grove. Each year the Western PA Chapter of the  National Network of Youth Ministries put’s on a youth event called Ignition to kick off the school year. This year I was invited to cover it and couldn’t have been more excited.

Ignition 2011 was held inside of a high school auditorium. There weren’t any fancy lights so to speak  just some down and cross lighting. There were no light changes as you would find at an arena show, and so as usual, you just work with what you have. As the lighting was fixed, dealing with exposure wasn’t much of an issue. Once I had it down (about 1/200, 2.8, ISO 1600) I was able to concentrate on composition; which I think is more important then exposure anyway.

So for you shooters that can’t always get access to big arena shows; look for shows like this and do a trade of access for prints. It’s a win-win. You win getting to shoot some bands and further develop your portfolio while the promoter wins having some professional shots for their Facebook page.
